The Message of Romans unfolds even more deeply in Book 5: “So Great Justification” continues where Book 4: So Great Redemption left off. The doctrines of redemption and justification interweave with each other as do all other doctrines that constitute the quintet of grace. Chapter 1 discusses the principles of redemption, focusing on the conceptual frameworks of atonement, reconciliation and forgiveness. The simplest things about salvation are the most powerful truths that set people free. Chapter 2 deals with the message of Romans 6, undoubtedly, one of the greatest chapters in the entire Bible. Romans 6 is a compendium of the message of redemption and salvation. The way to perpetual victory resides here. Chapter 3 amplifies Romans 6 by expounding upon the principle of death, revealing the idea that the believer who is united with Christ is dead to sin because Christ’s death destroyed sin. The chapter argues that only did Christ die for us but we must also die with him, hence “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me…” Galatians 2:20. Chapter 4 deals with the believer’s victory over sin, again a broad reflection of Romans 6. Complete victory over sin is the purpose of redemption.
Chapters 5 concludes the Apostle Paul’s explanation of the doctrine of redemption describing expiation and reconciliation in greater detail. Both concepts of redemption plus propitiation comprise the grand realization of atonement. Finally, Chapter 6 introduces the doctrine of justification, a supernatural act whereby God declares the sinner to be righteous, fulfilling the at-one-ment. While we come to terms with working out our own salvation with fear and trembling, we understand that God is the one who is working out His glorious plan within us, conforming us into the image of Christ. Philippians 2:12-13. All six chapters are great steps towards grasping the full meaning of salvation blueprint. The what, why and how of salvation are all wrapped up in the swaddling clothes of these chapters. Further, each chapter is laced with a unique Bible study section which further explore vital issues discussed in the chapter.
