We Are Called to the Supernatural
“A Higher Calling”
“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14)
When our Lord turned water into wine, He invited us to transcend the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary. When He walked on water, He called us to break beyond the natural and step into the supernatural. When He fed the five thousand, He shifted our perspective from limitation to abundance. Every miracle Jesus performed was more than a display of divine power—it was an invitation to a higher dimension of living. Jesus is God’s perfect example of the supernatural life we are called to live.
As François Boucher aptly stated, “The concept of the supernatural is the concept of a realm or domain that transcends…”
From a scriptural standpoint, the supernatural exists to reveal how the Son of God became the Son of Man so that the sons of men might become sons of God. It demonstrates how God descended to lift us to His level, calling us into a relationship where His glory is revealed through us.
Walking in the Footsteps of Christ
Jesus’ life was no ordinary life. He declared, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” (John 14:12)
The Apostle Peter affirmed this: “Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you…” (Acts 2:22).
Christ was the ultimate proof of God’s supernatural power at work in humanity. Through Him, the Father manifested His glory. As Paul wrote, “To wit, that God was in Christ…” (2 Corinthians 5:19). Jesus’ ministry was a demonstration of heaven touching earth—a bridge reconciling the divine with the human. His purpose was to glorify the Father, and in doing so, He modeled the supernatural life for us.Living Supernaturally
As believers, we are called to live beyond the ordinary. The Apostle John declared, “As He is, so are we in this world.” (1 John 4:17). We are Christ’s visible representatives on earth, His body, through which His glory continues to shine.
Just as the Father glorified Christ, Christ now invests His glory in us: “For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory…” (Hebrews 2:10). Creation itself eagerly awaits the manifestation of the sons of God (Romans 8:19). The Church, as Christ’s body, is the ultimate proof of His supernatural presence on earth:
“Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.” (1 Corinthians 12:27)
As The Message Bible puts it: “You are Christ’s body—that’s who you are! You must never forget this. Only as you accept your part of that body does your ‘part’ mean anything.”
If Christ, the Head, is supernatural, His body must also operate supernaturally. The Gospel, the very power of God, is the evidence of this supernatural reality.
A Glorious Display Awaited
The world waits for the Church to rise to its supernatural calling. As Paul declared, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation…” (Romans 1:16).
The life and works of Jesus call us to step into this higher calling, where we live not by human limitations but by the limitless power of God. Let us press on, reaching for the prize of this divine calling in Christ Jesus.
